First week in the MTC is in the books. The first day was a
blur, I really can't tell if it went by fast or slow. The first thing that I
did when I entered the MTC was grab my name tag, ID card, and other misc. items
that I needed. I was then brought to my living quarters, then walked to the
brand new MTC buildings. We are the third week of people that are able to take
classes in there, and it is a huge blessing. The room has a ton of room,
comfortable rolling chairs and large desks, and it also has giant windows with
a perfect view of the mountains. We met our main teacher, Sister Corbin that
day as well. Our teachers are only allowed to talk in Spanish, so I feel super
glad that I was able to take Spanish 4 in high school that was the same way. I
feel like I am learning a lot, but I also feel that I am learning more about
what I don't know rather than what I do know so far.
Day 2, or the first whole day was a bit better and more regimented. We had a
lot of introduction classes and other things. We met our other instructor,
Brother Horsley. I just laughed when I looked at his name tag. What were
the chances that my college roommate's older brother would be my language
teacher in the MTC? I also found a picture (below) of who I am 99% sure is
Brandon. I have seen a lot of the Horsley family this week at the MTC.
My district and companion are super great guys and girls,
It's nice to be in a group of people that are all in the same spot as you.
Doing it alone would be super difficult. We taught our first "Lesson"
completely in Spanish on Friday night, let's just say that it was a humbling
experience. We are teaching him more tomorrow and we will be more ready for
that.
I have been able to feel the spirit a lot at the MTC, which
is awesome because it is a constant reminder that what I am doing is correct.
If you are reading this and don't know what the spirit is, it is a feeling that
you get when you can feel the love of the gospel of Jesus Christ. In our zone
introduction meeting, I said that "I had felt the spiritual goosebumps
about 45 times in the last 31 hours being here." As it says in Alma 32:21,
you don't have to have a perfect knowledge of the Gospel to know that it is
true, but if you proceed with faith you can feel the truthfulness.
Thank you to everyone who is reading up on my experiences,
it means a lot. If you want to email me directly do it at collin.murphy@myldsmail.net
